Air pollution stem from vessels has become very important problem especially for those people live cities have heavy maritime traffic. Istanbul is one of the most important metropolises of the region and the world. In this study, strategies to reduce air pollution in the Strait of Istanbul were proposed by extending IMO and European Union (EU) strategies scope. These strategies priority levels were analysed employing Fuzzy AHP method by asking opinions of the experts who stay in the Strait of Istanbul as a harbour pilot or ship traffic operator and have at least 10 years existing work experience. Moreover, as a result of the analyses it was determined which of the ship types passing the strait are more sensitive to the abovementioned strategies by using Fuzzy TOPSIS method. Accordingly, strategies that are Declaration of the Strait of Istanbul and the Marmara Sea as a Sulphur Emission Control Area and Prohibition of the use of heavy fuel (HFO) on ships have been the highest priority strategies to reduce air pollution in the strait. Analyses also showed that transit ships have the highest sensitivity level to the strategies held in this study according to the selected experts. Keywords: Air Pollution, Strait of Istanbul, Strategies, Fuzzy AHP-TOPSIS.
